What is a PET-Preform?

A PET preform is a small, injection-molded plastic blank. It represents the first stage in the production of plastic bottles. The thread is already fully formed, while the rest of the body—resembling a test tube—is later heated and blown into the final bottle shape using compressed air.

This intermediate form offers a major advantage: The compact blanks can be stored and transported much more space-efficiently than finished bottles. Depending on the intended use, the weight and shape of the preform determine in advance how stable and large the final bottle will be.
