It all starts with a basic form. Small and unassuming, the PET preform resembles a test tube—hardly believable that it will one day become a PET bottle!
Eco-Friendly and Flexible
Yet the unique molding properties of polyethylene terephthalate—better known by its shorter abbreviation, “PET”—allow heat energy to transform the preform into a shatterproof and shape-flexible bottle with relative ease. The final shaping takes place at the filling plant itself.
At Varioform, we provide the necessary PET preforms for this process, producing them exclusively in Austria.
What is PET?
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a thermoplastic polymer used to create a wide variety of bottles and containers for diverse applications—from beverages to cleaning granules and cosmetics.
PET is produced from monoethylene glycol (MEG) and pure terephthalic acid (PTA) using heat in a high-vacuum environment and is delivered in granulate form.
